Cream Chocolate Caramels

Chocolate caramels melt in your mouth!
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup thick cream
  • 1 generous tablespoon butter
  • 4 ounces baker's chocolate
  1. Mix together in a granite-ware saucepan
  2. Place on the stove top and stir until the mixture boils.
  3. Cook until a few drops of it will harden if dropped into ice-water; then pour into well-buttered pans, having the mixture about three-fourths of an inch deep.
  4. When nearly cold, mark into squares.
  5. It will take almost an hour to boil this in a granite-ware pan, but not half so long if cooked in an iron frying-pan.
  6. Stir frequently while boiling.
  7. The caramels must be put in a very cold place to harden.
